WATER. THE ELIXER OF LIFE.
We drink it cold straight from the tap; we bathe in it, clean our vegetables cook our food and water our gardens with it. It’s easy to take for granted that our water is clean and safe.
British Columbian’s enjoy the cleanest drinking water in the world – in part because of environmental laws that compel us to protect our water systems from contamination.
Regular backflow water testing is critical to ensure safe, sustainable and secure water and wastewater systems that protect public health and our environment. Routine backflow testing is not only the responsible thing to do – it is the law.
WHAT IS BACKFLOW TESTING?
Our water systems are normally maintained at a significant pressure to enable water to flow from the tap, shower etc. When pressure fails or is reduced, as may happen if a water main bursts, pipes freeze or there is unexpectedly high demand on the water system, then the reduced pressure in the pipes may allow contaminated water from sprinkler systems, from storage or from other sources, to be drawn up into the system through cross connections. Cross connections are present in every water system; depending on the size of the system, hundreds or thousands of potential cross connections can exist.
Installing and preventing backflow situations is critical and as with everything that is manufactured, Backflow Prevention Assemblies and Devices break or wear out. By having your Backflow Prevention Assembly tested regularly, you will help to ensure that our water supply remains safe.
“Many people can be subject to cross contamination without even realizing the problem.”
